Organic Chemistry by Solomons is perfect for exam preparation – Highly Recommended! | eMedicalPrep

Hammond's postulate or alternatively the Hammond—Leffler postulate , is a hypothesis in physical organic chemistry which describes the geometric structure of the transition state in an organic chemical reaction. If two states, as, for example, a transition state and an unstable intermediate, occur consecutively during a reaction process and have nearly the same energy content, their interconversion will involve only a small reorganization of the molecular structures. Therefore, the geometric structure of a state can be predicted by comparing its energy to the species neighboring it along the reaction coordinate. For example, in an exothermic reaction the transition state is closer in energy to the reactants than to the products. Therefore, the transition state will be more geometrically similar to the reactants than to the products.

Hammond's postulate

Organic Chemistry by Solomons is one of the most important books from IIT JEE preparation point of view as well as preparation of other engineering entrance examinations. Each and every topic has been approached in such a simple and easy-to-understand manner that it tops all other Organic Chemistry books when it comes to exam preparation. Topics covered in the book are:. Alkenes and Alkynes I: Properties and Synthesis. Elimination Reactions of Alkyl Halides. Almost all the topics in the book are covered quite well but the Solomons Chemistry book excels in the way it explains Stereochemistry.

The book is aimed at three problem areas of Organic Chemistry — problem-solving, visualization of structures and understanding of mechanisms. The well illustrated reactions with elaborate and stepwise explanation of their mechanisms combined with a concise and easy-to-understand text help students master the basic concepts of the subject. The author is a master teacher of Organic Chemistry who understands the challenges faced by the students preparing for IIT-JEE in terms of practice problems and clarity of concepts. In view of these problems, the author has customized the book to meet their requirements. The concepts are explained in the most lucid manner and the relevance to IIT-JEE is enhanced by elaborating concepts related to the syllabus.

Download Organic Chemistry By T. To accomplish this, the text is organized in a way that combines the most useful features of a functional group approach with one largely based on reaction mechanisms. Emphasizing mechanisms and their common aspects as often as possible, this book shows students what organic chemistry is, how it works, and what it does in living systems and the physical world around us.
