Book Review: “Nymph Fishing” by George Daniel « currentseams

But, in terms of content, it is anything but. It is full of great observations and suggestions. Meant to be an update to the seminal Dynamic Nymphing , the new book is chock full of entries on:. One of my favorite sections is when he does situational observations. He gives examples of certain fishing conditions and what he would do to fish them. This is a book to read and re-read. I think it will be a classic.

Book Review: “Nymph Fishing” by George Daniel

Some anglers think stripping a Woolly Bugger across-stream is the only way to fish streamers, but like dry-fly anglers matching the hatch, as a streamer angler you need to understand the behavior and characteristics of the creatures you're imitating if you want to be successful. Strip-Set is a comprehensive streamer fly fishing and tying book which includes new approaches for trout, steelhead, musky, and bass, with over detailed photos and illustrations. While originally designed for redfish, the Pop-N-Fly has proved to be effective for numerous other saltwater and freshwater species, including speckled trout, false albacore, cobia, striped bass, smallmouth bass, lake trout, and more. Learn tactics, tips, and fly patterns that have worked well for Captain Dubiel and adapt those techniques to your home waters and the species you pursue. The past decade has seen an astronomical amount of new, exciting, and functional fly tying materials and components My intent with Fusion Fly Tying is to encourage you to experiment, steer you toward adapting new materials, meld modern and traditional styles, and hopefully see new innovations develop from the jaws of your own vise. Moreover, there's a completeness, a unity that comes from an attentiveness to detail that transcends their role as fish-catching tools.

However, when George was 14, his family relocated to central Pennsylvania, where, at a local fly shop, he found himself talking to his fly fishing idol, Joe Humphreys. Joe kindly took George under his wing and began providing him with his first, formalized fly fishing instruction. When George was just years-old, Joe began to provide instruction on all levels, e. George credits Joe for the bulk of his knowledge, but also graciously acknowledges many national and international fly fishing professionals who have worked with him during the past.

About George Daniel

And that may be what I like best about George. His writing style is easy to read and follow, which cannot be said of many how-to fly fishing books. But what I like best is that George squarely addresses the pros and cons of contact vs. Fly fishing is problem-solving, and there are many, many ways to do so. In the interest of full disclosure, George is a friend. This is an excellent book, and if you want to become a better nympher, you should be reading it. In a recent email exchange with him, he told me that now, unhampered by comp rules, he fishes drop shot more frequently than pure Euro, although he still prefers drop shot nymphing without an indicator.
