Labyrinth (disambiguation) - Wikipedia

Labyrinth is a musical fantasy film directed by Jim Henson , with George Lucas as executive producer, based upon conceptual designs by Brian Froud. It revolves around year-old Sarah's Jennifer Connelly quest to reach the center of an enormous otherworldly maze to rescue her infant brother Toby, whom Sarah wished away to Jareth the Goblin King David Bowie. Most of the film's significant characters, apart from Bowie and Connelly, are played by puppets produced by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. The film started as a collaboration between Henson and Froud following their previous collaboration The Dark Crystal. Terry Jones of Monty Python wrote the first draft of the film's script early in , drawing on Froud's sketches for inspiration.

You have that friend, we all have that friend — the one who knows the back story to the back story of the latest films and series. The one who decides to give the spiel during critical moments of said films and series. As it turns out, Labyrinth is based on a best-selling novel written by English author Kate Mosse. Intrigued by the history of local landmarks, Mosse sought to create an interesting fictional background story to the labyrinths in France. The story, which gives off a Da Vinci Code vibe, is far reaching and spans eight centuries. It orbits around religious extremists and their quest to get their hands on the Holy Grail — an item being guarded by French herbalist Alais and her family, who belong to a religious sect known as the Cathars. And that becomes a reoccurring theme in the book and the series: how much are you willing to do based on faith alone?

New light is set to be cast on David Bowie's enigmatic, tight-trousered portrayal of Jareth the Goblin King in Jim Henson's cult children's fantasy film Labyrinth through a graphic novel prequel out later this year. A deal between the Jim Henson Company and comics publisher Archaia to publish graphic novels based on Henson's creations has already seen adaptations of Fraggle Rock and The Dark Crystal. Now a long-rumoured Labyrinth comic is on the cards, with illustrator Brian Froud, who worked on the original film, to oversee character design and conception. Released in , Labyrinth told of young girl Sarah's quest to rescue her baby brother Toby from the labyrinth of the Goblin King, after she wishes the goblins will take him away in a fit of anger. Jennifer Connelly played the part of Sarah, with a big-haired Bowie attempting to seduce her into staying with him in the labyrinth as the Goblin King Jareth: "I ask for so little. Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave," he says to Sarah.
